Help Moving Around NorthWeb

Questions:

Question:  How is the information organised on NorthWeb?
Answer:  The website has been split into 6 main areas or 'channels', catering for our wide range of customers, citizens and other site users and providing access to information and services via different 'gateways'.

Each channel has a 4 level hierarchy of content. Hierarchy is maintained throughout the site and is progressively accessible. This means that entering a level 1 area makes level 2 available for selection, entering a level 2 area makes level 3 available for selection, and so on. Not all content requires the 4 levels.

The 6 level one channels are:-

  • Living Here – primarily for residents of North Lanarkshire, includes information and advice on Housing, Cleansing Services, Births, Deaths & Marriages, Consumer Issues, Public Health, Roads and Transport, and Emergency & Useful Contacts.
  • Caring for You – focussing on social work and community care services, welfare, health, it includes information and advice on Benefits, Rebates & Discounts; services for specific user groups i.e. Older People, Children & Families, People with Physical Disabilities and Learning Difficulties etc; Crime & Safety; Health Services; and Welfare Rights.
  • Your Council – contains information on the operation and function of the Council and Government, it includes News Releases and Events Information (including an Emergency News feature that links to the Home Page), Council and Councillors, Council Departments and Facilities, Facts and Figures, Policies, Plans and Strategies, Partnership, MPs/MEPs/MSPs, and a 'You Tell Us' consultation area.
  • Business & Employment – for our business customers, residents seeking business information and employment/training opportunities, it includes Business Services and Support, Local Economy, Planning and Building Control, Cleansing Services, Roads & Transport, Licensing, European Affairs, and Employment Services.
  • Education & Learning – focussing on the education of children and lifelong learning opportunities for our residents, it includes Early Years, Education Services, Lifelong Learning, Further & Higher Education, Schools, and School Holidays.
  • Leisure & Tourism – includes Sports Facilities and Activities, Visitor Information, Arts, Libraries, Museums & Heritage, Parks, and What's On.

Question:  How do I know which area of the site I am using?
Answer:  There are 3 main indicators to help you.

  • The 6 main information areas or channels are listed at the top of your screen in boxes called tabs ie Living Here, Caring For You etc.  The arrow contained in these tabs will point downwards on the tab for the area you are currently visiting. Similarly, tabs are available at the left hand side of the screen for Levels 2 and 3.  As you make your selection on these, arrows will appear.

  • Each of the 6 areas is colour coded, when you click on a Level 1 tab, you will enter that area of the site and the colour of the tab will change. Similarly, as you refine your selection to Level 2 and 3, the tab colours will change accordingly.   See image above.  The channel colours are:-

  • Living Here – orange
  • Caring for You – Purple
  • Your Council – Red
  • Business & Employment – Blue
  • Education & Learning – Green
  • Leisure & Tourism - Yellow

  • A 'breadcrumb trail' is also available near the top of your screen. This changes to show exactly where you are in the site, down to page level ie Living Here – Cleansing Services – Bins – Refuse Collection. By clicking on any one of the names in this trail, you can navigate around the site.
