Willowbank School

Willowbank and its annexe offer day support to young people.   They are part of the spectrum of special educational provision within North Lanarkshire Council.  The school is located in the west end of Coatbridge on the main Coatbridge to Glasgow road, the A89.

The school building comprises of a main office, two classrooms, a general purpose room and a kitchen.  Most of the pupils' day is spent within the school.  However, frequent use is also made of mainstream schools, FE colleges and local facilities such as the sports centre, swimming pool, athletics track and library.

School roll for session 2005/2006 is 46.

Willowbank Annexe is located on the Old Edinburgh Road in Viewpark, Uddingston.  It is part of Viewpark Community Education Centre and comprises one multi-purpose room which serves as a central base for a diversity of programmes.  The educational experience for pupils incorporates a school-based modular programme aligned with FE College and work experience placements.  To this end links have been forged with a variety of external agencies.  Extensive use is also made of local facilities, as required, to widen pupil experience and offer equality of educational opportunity.

Both centres are non-denominational, co-educational resources.  They provide full-time and part-time day placement for up to 50 young people of secondary age 12 to 17 who have been categorised as above.  Their failure to attend school has been the result of social, emotional or learning difficulties which subsequently have impaired academic and social progress.
