Pentland School

Pentland School badge Pentland school is a non-denominational, co-educational school which has a specialist provision for primary pupils with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties which is situated in the Townhead area of Coatbridge.

It is important that the school maintains links with the local community, and wider society.  Links are maintained with nearby primary and secondary schools with a view to sharing facilities and activities and facilitating successful re-integration to mainstream schooling.  Visits are made to nearby facilities such as libraries and sport complexes and speakers from local groups are invited into the school to contribute to the pupils personal and social development programme. School roll for session 2005/2006 is 26.

The school is staffed by eight teaching staff and eight non-teaching staff.  There are five classes which range from P1 to P7.

Children are admitted to the school at the request of psychological services.  These requests are made as a result of difficulties the child may be experiencing in mainstream schooling and the lack of success which other forms of support may have had.

Our aims are:

  • provide pupils with quality teaching and learning experiences across a wide and varied curriculum which develops the "whole child" and which is appropriate to their individual needs.
  • provide an ethos of achievement, which supports all pupils across a range of activities, which enables them to achieve at levels of success greater that their previous best.
  • provide maximum opportunities for parents to be involved and informed of all aspects of their child's life in the school.
  • provide additional levels of support and understanding for pupils through effective working relationships with all relevant agencies and professionals as appropriate.
  • provide all pupils and staff with a safe and happy environment where the dignity and value of all is encouraged, respected and celebrated.
  • provide opportunities for pupils to reintegrate to mainstream schooling as and when it may be appropriate to do so.
  • achieve our aims by providing a competent, committed and effectively managed staff team who have a shared version for maintaining and improving personal and school effectiveness by way of sharing in a regular review and development process.
