Firpark School and Nursery

Firpark School badge Firpark school is situated at the upper end of Motherwell, close to the Civic Centre, Motherwell Football Club and Motherwell College.  It is within walking distance of the main shopping precinct and has good public transport facilities.  The school was purposed built in 1977 to accommodate pupils with special needs.  It has good access for persons with mobility needs since all the rooms are situated at ground level.

Within our school building there are four teaching blocks, medical suite, Technical, Art and Home Economics rooms, computer suite, PE hall, swimming pool, physiotherapy gym, soft play room and parents' room.

The children on our roll (age range from 3-19 years) who are mainly drawn from a catchment area within North Lanarkshire with a percentage of children from South Lanarkshire.  The children are transported to school either by local authority buses or taxi.  Many of our senior pupils travel to school by public transport.

Within the school we have a nursery, which caters for a range of children with special needs, aged 3-5 years.  We also have a primary and secondary department.  The school is inter-denominational.

The school is staffed by 36 teaching staff, which includes teachers of specialist subjects of Technical, Art, Home Economics, P.E. and Music, and 27 non teaching staff.

There is also input from specialist services - speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, school medical officer, dentist, psychological services, hearing and visual impairment specialists and ESL teachers.

The curriculum presented to pupils is within national and local authority guidelines ie 3-5, 5-14 and Higher Still.  Some pupils in S3 and S4 also undertake a two year Standard Grade course in Social and Vocational Skills.  S3 to S6 pupils participate in a college link course one day a week.

Within Firpark much attention is focused on the local community and pupils throughout the school participate in a wide range of out of school activities.  We use our two school mini-buses to enable our pupils to access local and wider community.  We have a very supportive school board.
