Clyde Valley high school is a six year co-educational and non-denominational comprehensive secondary school. The school serves the main districts of Wishaw including the town centre, Netherton, Muirhouse, Craigneuk, Wishawhill, Cambusnethan, Newmains, Bonkle, Morningside, Pather, Gowkthrapple and Overtown. |
| As a school, we try to keep parents and the local community informed about what is happening in the school. This means we use the local press regularly and produce our own publications like the school handbook and our Year Book. Very importantly, we also like to celebrate the successes of our pupils by giving them public recognition in these ways. We always try to include photographs whenever possible. |

The complex building now forming Clyde Valley high was opened in 1971 - then as Garrion academy. In 1992, both Garrion academy and Wishaw high school closed to form Clyde Valley high school. The school buildings are a striking example of modern architecture and occupy a beautiful green-field site on the outskirts of Wishaw adjacent to the valley of the River Clyde. The main building has three floors which accommodate the main teaching areas of the school and a recently refurbished library resource centre. Separate specialist accommodation houses science, technical education, drama, the theatre and PE. The extensive sporting facilities include a swimming pool, tennis courts and a fitness suite.
Extra curricular activities are a vital constituent element in the personal and social development of young people and parents are asked to encourage their children to participate in events after school. There are various extra curricular activities available for our pupils.
In Clyde Valley high every effort is made to encourage our pupils to be actively involved in all that contributes to the wider life of the school. each year group has an elected pupil council. In turn, the year councils elect members to serve on a full schools council. Every register class elects two representatives to serve on the council for a period of one year. The representatives meet twice per term with a senior member of staff. The full schools council meets once per term. Pupils and staff can suggest topics for discussion. Minutes of the council meetings are circulated to all register classes and to all staff. These councils ensure the views of pupils on important topics can be heard. It also provides pupils with an opportunity to suggest ways of developing the school.
Clyde Valley high school has established extensive links with its nine partnership schools, which are, Berryhill Primary, Castlehill Primary, Morningside Primary, Muirhouse Primary, Netherton Primary, Newmains Primary, Overtown Primary, Thornlie Primary and Wishaw Academy Primary. We aim to prepare pupils for a smooth transition between primary and secondary school and to provide continuity of learning. The assistant head teacher of lower school links closely with all the primary head teachers when they have their monthly meetings to discuss curricular matters. All aspects of the "5 – 14 curriculum" are tackled in turn and expertise is shared within the group. Each year, Clyde Valley organises a number of events and visits for the pupils in our primary schools.
In addition, staff from Clyde Valley make a number of visits to the primary schools. Guidance and learning support staff, in conjunction with the Primary seven teachers, prepare profiles on the pupils. This ensures that pupils are kept together with friends and that any special needs are met. During P7 staff from Clyde Valley visit the primaries to begin forming working relationships with the young people. By the time the pupils leave primary school, Clyde Valley has gathered a wealth of information on each individual – health, progress, effort, national test results, special needs etc. As a result of our liaison programme, it is our experience that pupils settle very quickly into S1 and that they are able to experience continuity of educational provision.
