Braidhurst high is a six year co-educational and non-denominational comprehensive school. The school was opened in 1962 and since 1974 it has been a six year comprehensive with the full range of ability in pupils throughout years one to six. The school buildings are modern and have bright and attractive interiors well suited for current educational needs. |

The main building is a two storey block containing teaching rooms, two gymnasiums, science laboratories, a cafeteria/dining room, a library/resource base, technological workshops, lounges for senior pupils, a nursery, a drama studio and a theatre/assembly hall. It is also linked by an enclosed bridge to the four story tower block containing further teaching accommodation, a computer suite and art and design studios including pottery room. The sportsbarn is a large indoor facility which provides opportunities for a wide range of sporting facilities. |

The modern languages department in the main building has perimeter audio-learning units in all rooms. The business studies department, also housed in the main building enjoys the most up-to-date facilities possible. Wet weather facilities for pupils are also available in this building.
Braidhurst high school has a very active and thriving informal curriculum. There is a wide variety of sports activities and clubs in the school involving large numbers of pupils and staff. Details of these activities are announced at assemblies, through the school newsletter and are indicated on school notice-boards. Pupils are warmly invited to take part in any of these activities where appropriate. A wide variety of house/inter-house competitions, outings and activities are on offer and pupils are encouraged to participate.
Braidhurst sportsbarn has proved a valuable addition to school accommodation. It is available for use by physical education classes and school sports clubs. The sportsbarn is a modern sports hall capable of accommodating indoor soccer, handball, volleyball, netball, basketball and badminton. There are dressing room and shower facilities in the building. The school is well known for its talent contest, Christmas "Music in Motherwell" concert and annual school show. The school also organises lots of outings and educational trips.
Braidhurst high aims to encourage better home school links to pupils and their families to empower them to make informed decisions about their future, to support pupils and their families by increasing their opportunities to participate in educational and community activities and to promote a more positive and enjoyable all round experience of school for both pupils and parents.
The catchment area of Braidhurst includes the districts of North Motherwell, Forgewood, and Jerviston. Pupils are normally drawn from the associated primary schools which are Calder Primary, Ladywell Primary, Logans Primary and Muir Street Primary. Liaison arrangements with associated primary schools include: primary six/seven disco in November, a leisure visit in November, a two day curricular visit, an open evening, visit to see the school show and school sports, guidance staff visits to primary schools, parents open morning/afternoon and primary six technology visits.
