Whitelees primary is a non-denominational co-educational primary school teaching children from primary one to primary seven. The school is situated on the east boundary of Cumbernauld within the Abronhill district and is easily accessible by public and private transport.

The school was built in 1976 and is a one level, semi-open plan building. There are 14 classrooms, six at infant department opening onto an activity area, four at the junior stage with another open area and four at the senior stage again with an adjacent open area. There is a library, GP room, and stage and gym and dining hall. Outside view of Whitelees Primary school

Many varied activities are offered during the course of the school year. Children have the opportunity to take part in inter-school sporting events. There is a school book club, which is open, to all. Every year we have a variety of excursions usually with a curricular link. This session there is the opportunity for our primary six pupils to have a residential stay at Kilbowie Outdoor centre, and our primary seven pupils have the opportunity to visit Euro Disney, Paris.

Close partnership is actively encouraged to ensure that children benefit fully from the service on offer. Contact afternoons and evenings are organised twice a year and there are regular open evenings and workshops. School newsletters and information sheets are regularly sent to parents as well as children's work folio's being sent home. There is a Parent Teachers' Association open to all and a school board. The school is pleased to have the regular support and commitment of a group of parents who lend a hand with day-to-day activities. Any parent is welcome to help on a regular basis or a helper on a class outing. The experience proves to be valuable for pupils, parents and staff alike.

Schools nowadays are seen more and more as an integral part of the communities they serve and close links are maintained between Whitelees primary and Community Involvement Branch of Cumbernauld Police who give regular talks on road safety, drug awareness etc. There has also good links been fostered with the school nurse and health visitors who arrange personal and social development programmes. We are always pleased to offer placements to teachers in training, students and work experience pupils from local secondary schools. Parents and friends of Whitelees give of their free time to help around the school. Abronhill regeneration forum is actively involved in encouraging community spirit.

Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from Whitelees primary normally transfer to Abronhill High School, Cumbernauld.
