is its Business Partner. Pupils participate in local events and competitions such as the Speech and Drama Festival, usually with a good degree of success. Working in partnership with parents is fully promoted. Regular newsletters keep parents informed of school activities. There is an active Parent Council and a hardworking PTA. Parents are invited to two pupil progress meetings annually and there are numerous invitations to parents for class assemblies, Open Days, concerts and exhibitions of work. Parent Support Workers offer workshops and after school clubs on a very regular basis to involve parents in their children’s learning. An inter-agency approach allows for educational input from police and health officials.
Many varied activities are offered during the course of the school day. Classroom work is complemented by educational outings to places of interest and P7 pupils are offered a residential week at Kilbowie Outdoor Centre. Senior pupils also have the opportunity to visit York and/or Paris. There is a comprehensive programme of after school clubs which is on offer for all pupils from P1 – P7.
Very good transition programmes are in place for the transfer from Nursery to Primary One and for Primary Seven to S1. Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from Townhead primary normally transfer to Coatbridge High.
