St Serf's is a Roman Catholic, co-educational primary school teaching children from nursery to primary seven. The building consists of 15 class bases and open activity areas. Other accommodation includes a hall, dining room, general offices and visiting services room. Children from primary one to primary seven are admitted and a nursery class caters for pre-five children with 20 places each morning and afternoon. |
| The original St Serf's was constructed in 1957. In 1989 the school was extended and completely remodelled. The new open-plan building was officially opened by Councillor James McGuigan on 8 November 1989 providing excellent accommodation for children from north Airdrie and the village of Glenmavis. |

Children are encouraged to take part in a range of after-school activities to include badminton, cross country, netball and football. As well as the schools own football park, good use is made of Rawyards Sports Centre. Primary seven pupils encouraged to attend music, sports, drama and computing activities supported by St Margaret's High school and Community Education.
Parents are kept informed of all the activities and happenings in the school by newsletters sent out by the head teacher. Each child has a communication folder which is used to keep letters and homework diaries in. There is a Parent Teacher Association and all parents have an open invitation to attend the meetings. Workshops are arranged throughout the year to keep parents informed about teaching methods. Parents are encouraged to act as helpers in school. Links have been established with Community Education who will be organising activities for parents in school. During the month of June, parents of children due to start in August are invited to bring their child to school for three afternoon sessions. This gives the children an opportunity to get to know their classmates and teacher. Parents learn more about the school and how they can help prepare their child for school.
Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from St Serf's primary normally transfer to St Margaret's high, Airdire.
