Pupil roll statistics from Scottish Executive Education Department census at 12 September 2006. Rolls are subject to change throughout the school session.
The children will usually visit places such as, Motherwell Heritage Centre, Summerlee Heritage Centre, Scotland Street School, Vikingar at Largs, The People's Palace, Glasgow Art Gallery and Museum and many other places of interest. The primary seven pupils are usually taken on a week or weekend visit to an outdoor centre. The local library invites pupils to meet famous authors and enjoy a story telling session. We are grateful to all parents who assist us with our activities and welcome new volunteers.
Parents are welcome to contact the head teacher at any time. Parents' interviews are held twice each session to provide an opportunity for parents to discuss their child's progress and behaviour with the class teacher. Induction for new P1 pupils is held on two afternoons in the summer term. Parental workshops on aspects of the curriculum are held throughout the school year. Newsletters detailing achievements and forthcoming events are issued monthly. The Parents Association holds regular social events such as dances, coffee mornings, ladies nights, Christmas and Halloween parties for the pupils, and family nights. Home School Partnership has been set up. This will encourage parents to become more involved in the education of their children by involving them in the curriculum, offering education and training programmes and establishing support materials within the community.
Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from St Michael's normally transfer to St Maurice's High School, Westfied, Cumbernauld.
