St Kevin's Primary

St Kevin's Primary school badge

St Kevin's is a Roman Catholic school for boys and girls between the ages of four and a half and 12 years. St Kevin's plays an important roll in the community, as it is the designated community education centre for the area. Bargeddie nursery centre is located in the school and runs each morning from 9am to12pm.

The nursery centre is in partnership with Early Years education and provides placements for three to four year olds. It has its own designated door entry system and teaching base. Brownies and Rainbows meetings are held in the school every week.

St Kevin's actively encourages such activities and presently runs a football team with mixed participation and a netball team. We have our own football pitch within the school grounds. The school actively encourages the parents to become involved with such activities. Brass instrument tuition is also available in the senior classes under the direction of a visiting tutor. In the summer months athletics is also added to the curriculum culminating in our annual sports and gala day trophies, medals and certificates are presented to the children. Throughout the year there are several other major events in the school usually run under the auspices of the PTA eg Halloween parade, Easter bonnet parade etc. Parents are always welcome to come along and enjoy the fun. Over the last few years the upper school has been involved in our out-of-school leaning programme and we presently run a very successful chess club. Several children also visit the local art and music colleges held in the local high schools.

Throughout the year parents are encouraged to play an active part in the life of the school by becoming parent helpers, running the school tuck shop, assisting at book fairs, supervising on school trips, making costumes for school productions and generally helping whenever necessary. At the beginning of each session a questionnaire and invitation is sent to all parents to ask what level of support they feel they can offer with encouragement from the class teachers to help overcome their possible apprehension. St Kevin's has an active Parent Teachers Association and School Board which meet approximately once a month dates of meeting will be notified via school newsletters and provide an opportunity for an exchange of views and discussion on school policies etc.

Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from St Kevin's primary normally transfer to St Ambrose High School.
