St David's primary school is a co-educational Roman Catholic school containing all stages from P1 to P7. It is located in Plains, a former mining village situated four miles east of Airdrie. Its catchment area includes the villages of Plains and Greengairs. The school is included with its non-denominational partner in North Lanarkshire Council's PPP initiative. |
| The accommodation consists of a former junior secondary building from the late fifties providing traditional classrooms, a dining hall, an assembly hall and a gym hall set in extensive grounds. Included in the school is a non-denominational nursery class of 30 full time equivalent places staffed by a nursery teacher and three nursery nurses. |

The full range of courses based on 5 -14 are offered to all children and French is taught at the P6 and P7 stages. The school is staffed by nine teaching staff and 11 non teaching staff. A brass instrumental tutor is available for tuition once a week. Meals are cooked on the premises for both the school and its neighbouring non-denomination school as well as for the local lunch club.
Pupils normally transfer from to primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5, so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils normally transfer from St David's primary to St Margaret's High, Airdrie.
