St Barbara's Primary

St Barbara's Primary school badge St Barbara's primary is a co-educational, Roman Catholic school with a planning capacity of 326. At present there are eight classes including one composite class ie split stages, for example, four and five. The school has nine full time teaching staff who cater for the needs of pupils from primary one to primary seven.

It is a major aim of the school to foster good home and school links. Regular newsletters will attempt to keep parents up to date with what is occurring in the life of the school an annual timetable of holidays will be distributed at the beginning of each year and be updated via regular newsletters. Like all schools we attempt to offer pupils more than just an education and extra curricular activities help greatly in widening the child's school experience. The school make use of all opportunities to allow groups of pupils to participate in sporting, cultural and social activities. Sporting events, team games, theatrical visits etc, all play an important role in school life and pupils are encouraged to participate fully. On occasions parental support is required to supervise pupils and request for such are generally directed via individual class letters. In the current school session pupils are able to access a variety of after school activities. These include in-school provision and provision supported by North Lanarkshire. Volleyball gymnastics, soccer, choir, instrumental tuition, art and design and drama are all on offer.

The school has a home and school link officer who will be supporting the school in the presentation of a programme of workshops designed to develop parents' awareness of how they might best support their children's learning. The parents of the school are encouraged to support the two parent forums connected to the school, the school board and the parents' association. These provide an opportunity for the parents and staff to work together for the benefit of the pupils. You will be kept up to date with both bodies via newsletters.

We hope our school forms an important part of the community. During the school year we are involved with many outside agencies: doctors, health visitors, social workers, local bank, youth clubs, religious organisations, senior citizens, the sick and nursery groups. Today, education is accepted as having an important social side to it and we hope to prepare the children to take an active part in the life of their community. Various youth organisations and clubs are held throughout the year in the schools assembly hall and gym hall. There is also a football field, which is also used on a regular basis by various football and sports clubs.

Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from St Barbara's primary normally transfer to Our Lady's High School, Dowanfield Road, Cumbernauld.
