St Augustine's Primary

St Augustine's Primary school badge

St Augustine's is a Roman Catholic, co-educational primary school situated on Henderson Street, Coatbridge. The school teaches children from primary one to primary seven after which most children then move onto St Ambrose High. The school has a capacity of 462. The school currently has 15 classes two of which are composite classes.

The school has an assembly and dining hall, which doubles as a gymnasium and playground. It is North Lanarkshire's policy that school accommodation be made available as far as possible out with school hours for use by the community. Within the school there are numerous extra-curricular activities which include football, netball, and tuition in guitar and violin. Outside view of St Augustine's Primary school

We try to keep parents as fully informed as possible with regard to everything which happens in the school and affects their children, and news bulletins are issued at regular intervals. The issue of merit certificates should also inform parents of their child's progress. Meetings will be held throughout the year as and when the need arises, to keep you informed and to enlist your co-operation in preparing your child for the reception of the Sacraments. Over the past year it has been very gratifying to see so many parents forging close relationships with the school. We have a very active Parent Teachers Association and many parents help in a variety of ways. We hope this kind of co-operation will continue and develop in the years ahead.

We endeavour to impress upon the pupils that as well as being members of the school community that they are also members of the local community, and that the attitudes and behaviour of one section will have an effect on the other. We also encourage our pupils to be sympathetic to the needs of the others especially the less fortunate members of our society. Over many years pupils have contributed very generously to various charities local, national and international. Thanks are also due to parents for their generosity in supporting all fundraising events.

Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from St Augustine's primary normally transfer to St Ambrose High, Blair Road, Coatbridge.
