St Andrew's Primary and Nursery Airdrie

St Andrew's Primary school badge St Andrew's primary school was established in 1957 as a co-educational Roman Catholic primary school to serve the educational needs of the pupils in the Whinhall and Burnfoot areas of Airdrie. A 30-30 nursery class was included in 1997 and this was increased to 40-40 in 2000.

In 2000 a new four based open plan extension was completed and the hutted accommodation was removed thus housing all staff and pupils under one roof. There has been a recent increase in the number of parents seeking placing requests into the school. The school is staffed by 13 teachers and has nine support staff. The school provides a well balanced curriculum and pupil attainment in language and mathematics continues to rise and is a reflection of the very good programmes available and the work being done by all staff. The school is well resourced in all areas of the curriculum and the standard of accommodation is good.

There is an active school board and a "family and friends association" operating and these both raise funds to support the work of the school. A breakfast club operates each day from 8.00am until 8.45am and there are various out of school learning opportunities available to primary four to primary seven.

Pupils normally transfer from to primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5, so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils normally transfer from St Andrew's primary to St Margaret's High, Airdrie.
