Sikeside primary school is a non-denominational co-educational school covering stages primary one to primary seven and nursery. Letters are sent out regularly keeping parents informed of all that is happening in the school. A newspaper will be developed this year and will be written by a team of junior journalists for pupils and parents. Parents are invited to help with the running of the school bookshop and occasionally to help on outings. Visits to classes have been arranged this year for subjects such as maths, writing, ICT and environmental studies. |
| The school forms an integral part of the wider community, acting as a general link in the chain of communication within our area. The school building can be used by various local groups after school. Pupils are encouraged to think about local issues by covering local study topics at some point in their school career, and also by participating in local organised events such as the Monklands Festival of speech and drama and the Monklands "quiz." The school also has an annual Harvest Festival after which pupils deliver parcels to the elderly in the local area. We support charities which are identified by the pupil council. |

Visits to the theatre and visits by theatre groups to the school are part of each session's programme, as are many other educational outings and visits. Our annual "fun sports" are now well established. Children usually perform in a production at least once each year. This year we have football, recorder, art, science and McFit clubs out of school hours, these may be added to during the year. Our pupils are encouraged to become involved in North Lanarkshire NOF colleges. This year pupils have gone to rugby, trampolining and music.
Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 years so that they have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from Sikeside primary normally transfer to Rosehall High school, Coatbridge.
