Our Lady and St Francis primary is a Roman Catholic, co-educational primary school covering the stages of nursery to primary seven. The school is at the heart of the local community which it serves. School events are open to all members of the community and we seek to involve parents and friends in everyday life of our establishment. |
| There is a good level of parental involvement throughout the school. Parents work with staff at all stages, displaying pupils work, supervising various activities etc and accompanying them on educational outings. They also organise and run the fiction library and tuck shop. We realise that the support of parents is vital in fostering positive attitudes to work and encouraging good behaviour in our children and as a means to achieving this, we try to encourage their involvement in school related activities. |
 |
There is a newly refurbished parents' room, where parents and helpers can relax and enjoy a cup of tea while helping in the school. Parents work with staff at all stages. The meaning of "parents" in this school, extends to grandparents and members of the local community, who all make an invaluable contribution to life in the school. The head teacher holds regular meetings, to explain curriculum developments to the parent body, and involves parents in any proposed new purchases for the school. Newsletters are sent to parents at least once a month. This school encourages the community to share satisfaction of watching its children grow into maturity, by developing meaningful relationships with all sections of the population.
The school offers many extra curricular activities which include, football which Is taken by a parent after school and seven-a-side football festivals organised by North Lanarkshire take place on various Thursday mornings. The SFA coach at Motherwell Football club offers training to those boys involved in football on Mondays. There is also out-of-school learning activities such as drama and netball and a lunchtime chess club, which are all taken by class teachers.
Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from Our Lady and St Francis normally transfer to Taylor High School, New Stevenston.
