Lawmuir Primary

Lawmuir Primary school badge Lawmuir primary school is non-denominational and caters for children aged between four and a half and 11.5. The school is based in the Orbiston area of Bellshill, approximately half a mile from the town centre. The school was opened in 1957 and is set in extensive grounds. The accommodation comprises 16 classrooms, one resource, a large open area, a structured activity, a gym and dining hall, a reading recovery base and administrative offices.

Extra-curricular activities, including study support, run throughout the school year and are varied - rugby, athletics. choir, art, computing, thinking skills, school newspaper, modern dance, badminton, football, knitting and sewing clubs are organised to cater for the very large number of children wishing to attend. The school has undergone an inspection by HMI and an excellent report was published in January 2000. HMI had a successful follow up visit in November 2002. Copies of the report are available on request from the school or you can view the report by using the external links box at the right.

The school has an active Parent Teacher Association. Parents support the school in various ways - through helping out in the structured activity area, accompanying classes on outings, attending open days, curricular workshops and social events.

Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from Lawmuir primary normally transfer to Bellshilll Academy.
