Kirk O' Shotts Primary

Kirk O' Shotts Primary school badge Situated in Salsburgh, Kirk O' Shotts primary school is a non-denominational, co-educational school covering stages primary one to primary seven. Children in primary six and seven have swimming lessons at Shotts leisure centre. We also have visits from athletics groups encouraging children to go along in the evenings to classes organised by the centres. Throughout the year, we are involved in fun fours, seven a side football and netball.

The school has forged strong links with many of the people in the village and receives a great deal of support locally. We also have strong links with local businesses such as the bus company Golden Eagle coaches which goes out of its way to support the school, and the local quarry, Bardon Aggregates which treats the children every Christmas. Many adults help out at the various functions within the school throughout the year and are generally supportive. Outside view of Kirk O'Shotts Primary school

Throughout the year, pupils take part in excursions in which parents are encouraged to take part. Most excursions are related to the work of the pupils in school, but others are for the personal and social development of the pupils. In the past pupils have visited historic buildings, the zoo, adventure parks, Transport Museum and Art Galleries, the Burrell Collection, seaside, cinema, the list is endless. We also have from time to time, visiting artistes, authors and theatre companies. Live theatre being a new experience for many of our children. We also have regular visits from the school nurse, the local police, and many other agents from the emergency services.

At Kirk O' Shotts primary, we actively encourage parents to become involved with the school. Many parents have given their names to be called on to help out on excursions, coffee mornings, fetes, fundraising, and discos and to help out generally within the school. A letter via the children contacts parents, in order to pass on information from the school. A newsletter is sent home at least once per term along with a calendar of dates for the year.

Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 years so that they have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from Kirk O' Shotts normally transfer to Caldervale High, Airdrie.
