Greengairs Primary and Nursery

Greengairs Primary school badge Our staff consists of six teaching staff, a nursery teacher, a nursery nurse and 10 non-teaching staff. We are a non-denominational primary school and are situated in the village of Greengairs. Our catchment area includes Drumgray, Greengairs, Riggend, Upperton, Wattson and outlaying farms and homes.

The building is circular and semi-open plan. The seven classrooms are positioned around the perimeter. There are shared open areas and a library between the classrooms and the main hall, which is in the centre. There is also a stage, dining room with kitchen facilities, a medical suite and a computer suite. The administration is situated at the main entrance to the school. Our nursery class opened in October 2001 and provides pre-five education for 3-5 year olds. Five sessions a week are offered either morning or afternoon.

We were inspected by HMI in June 2001 and received an excellent report with 18 out of 22 performance indicators deemed to be very good and the other four in the good category.

There is a pupil council, elected by their peers, who organise after school activities for pupils from P4-P7.

We have been successful in gaining the School's Curriculum Award, the Eco Green Flag and North Lanarkshire's Spotlight on Success Award for improving learning and teaching.

Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from Greengairs primary normally transfer to Airdrie Academy, South Commonhead Avenue, Airdrie.
