Many of the staff, both teaching and non teaching, give of their free time to take clubs and sports. At present we have netball, football, cross country, German scripture union, recorders and choir. There is also a lunch-time club for SSPCA/B and a Focus on Food Club. Every second year training takes place for the National Cycling Proficiency Test. All children who ride bicycles on the local streets are encouraged to take part in the training. Tests take place at the school and certificates are awarded to the successful cyclists. Every year the children are given the opportunity to go on outings related to their environmental studies work. Those are most enjoyable occasions and enhance the children's learning.
The school also has a pupil council. These are children who represent each class in the school and who meet regularly with the head teacher to discuss ideas for improving the school and making it a happy, caring environment. To date they have suggested a points system for keeping the playground tidy and have awarded a shield to the best class.
Glenmanor primary school maintains close links with the community. We work along with the health agencies, library, police, community education, the church, senior citizens and pre-school organisations.
In order to encourage a smooth transaction from primary to secondary school for all primary seven pupils, the school have a structured liaison programme. This involves the exchange of helpful information, the opportunity for primary staff to visit the high school both prior to their transfer and after the children have been a few weeks in the secondary school, the opportunity for the secondary staff to visit the primary children in their primary school and the opportunity for two days' visit of all primary seven pupils to the high school. A meeting is also arranged for the parents of the pupils and for any other interested person.
Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 years so that they have the opportunity to complete at least four years secondary education. Pupils from Glenmanor primary normally transfer to Chryston High school, Chryston.
