Gartcosh Primary

Gartcosh Primary school badge

Gartcosh primary school is a non-denominational, co-educational primary school covering stages primary one to seven.  At present all classes are composite, more than one year group per class, and are comprised of groups of children working at the same or similar levels of attainment.

At Gartcosh we endeavour to maintain close links with our parents by means of the school newsletter that is issued once or twice a term as necessary. Parents are encouraged to take an active part in the life of the school through various meetings and workshops. We would most certainly like to operate an "open door" policy, but, as there are times when the head teacher is class committed, this is not always possible. Outside view of Gartcosh Primary school

The school offers many extra curricular activities, which include brass tuition, after school clubs such as, mini-soccer, indoor bowling and performing arts.

The school strives to maintain links with the community in a number of ways. We try to incorporate a community based topic in our environmental studies programme and encourage and value the support if local agencies: ie library, local council, police, fire and local health services. Each year we select a charity to which any extra funds raised are given and for a number of years have supported the work of Christian Aid through our Harvest soup kitchens and Dunfermline Aid to the former Yugoslavia through collection of goods at Harvest time.

Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 years so that they have the opportunity to complete at least four years secondary education. Pupils from Gartcosh primary normally transfer to Chryston High school, Chryston.
