Eastfield Primary

Eastfield Primary school badge We opened in August 1988 and are a modern non-denominational multi-cultural school, which serves Balloch, Eastfield, and the Craigmarloch area of Cumbernauld and the village of Croy.

The main building is open plan and is divided into three main teaching areas. Each of these areas has its own toilet and cloakroom block and noisy and quiet room. We also have an audio and visual room and library. The fourth largest area within the school is our main hall, which serves as an assembly hall, gymnasium and dining hall. Additional accommodation in the form of a two-classroom block completes the teaching space available to us. Outside view of Eastfield primary school

Many extra curricular activities and Out of School Learning clubs are available within the school. We currently offer football, netball, handball, choir and an art club as after school activities and these are targeted at pupils from P4 to P7. A number of pupils also attend North Lanarkshire's art college, music and sports college and several of our young musicians attend the North Lanarkshire Preparatory School Band at Coatbridge high school, all of which takes place after school. Trips related to particular projects will be arranged whenever appropriate, and we would hope to offer the pupils of P7 the opportunity of a residential trip.

Newsletters and updates are sent home at regular intervals to keep parents informed of school life and events. We welcome and encourage parental interest in the school and hope that all parents will find a welcoming atmosphere within. Whenever possible and where appropriate informal workshop sessions are offered. These allow parents an insight into both the working of the school and the curriculum offered to our children. Parents will also be invited whenever practical to view performances by pupils. We hope that parents will offer their services by means of help within school, for trips, coaching for sports, and general help around school.

We hope that the school will play a large part in the life of the area, and that members of the community will contribute to the life of the school. Visits to the school by police, fire fighters, dentist, chaplains, school nurse and doctor are planned. Each plays their part in developing each pupil's well being. We hope that the community will join with us whenever possible at events such as concerts and end of term services. As part of the community, we hope to participate in as many community events as possible, and that links established with our local secondary and associated primary schools can grow and become even stronger. Hopefully, our curriculum will stretch further than just the classroom.

Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from Eastfield primary normally transfer to Greenfaulds High School.

We have a close working relationship with Greenfaulds high school, developing links which allow us to exchange staff, discuss pupils progress, ways of teaching and how to prepare our pupils for the transition to secondary. Our P7 pupils have visits from secondary staff. Parents are invited to meetings both here and at Greenfaulds and our pupils have a two-day visit there in June. There are also opportunities for our P7 pupils to join with the pupils of the other feeder primaries and pupils of Greenfaulds high to give public performances and take part in events run by the music, science, technical and PE departments. All of this is planned to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible.
