Cumbernauld primary school is a non-denominational, co-educational school teaching boys and girls of all faiths and cultures from primaries one to seven. The school, is situated on Eastfield Road and is a two-storey building.

The school opened on 6 January 2003, the first shared campus school to be built in North Lanarkshire. St. Andrew 's Primary and Cumbernauld primary are completely separate, but we share the playground, library, dining room, gym hall etc. We have at present a roll of 597 and the working capacity is 660. There are many extra curricular activities available within the school. We have rugby and football training, netball, hockey, cross-stitch club, card making club, line dancing club and Cumbernauld primary/St. Andrew's Choir. The senior classes have a block of swimming instruction as part of their physical education programme.

Every year, towards the end of the summer term, the children are involved in a school trip. Throughout the session there may be other outings arranged in connection with class projects being undertaken, eg to the Art Galleries or Museum of Transport.

Throughout the school year parents are informed of all matters affecting the day-to-day running of the school as well as extra-curricular activities by means of a monthly newsletter. This informs them of parents evenings, Parent/Teacher Association meetings, holiday's etc.

The music instructor visits the school on a Friday and children have access to tuition in various Brass instruments. There is also a PE specialist who visits the school one-day a week.

Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from Cumbernauld primary normally transfer to Cumbernauld High School.
