Chryston Primary

Chryston Primary school badge We are a non-denominational primary school, which serves the Chryston - Muirhead community in North Lanarkshire.  Chryston is located off the A80 Glasgow - Stirling road, seven miles to the east of Glasgow city centre and seven miles west of Cumbernauld.

The present school building was opened in 1966. It is a single storey building consisting of seven classrooms. There is also a hall and dining room, stage and GP room, a library and an administration block within the main building. A further four classrooms are situated in hutted accommodation across the playground, two of these rooms are classrooms and two are used for after school care which is run by the YMCA.

We have nine teaching staff and five support staff. A member of our Network Support Team provides further support. There is also a music instructor for brass tuition.

We provide a secure and stimulating environment where the children can learn effectively. We also aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, according to 5-14 guidelines, to suit the needs and abilities of every individual pupil. Children are encouraged to engage actively in their learning process.

There is no Parent Council at present, but an active group of parents help in the school on a regular basis. The enthusiastic Parents' Association helps by organising fund-raising and social events for parents and children.

We have a very active Pupil Counicl in Chryston Primary.  Each year they organise fundraising events for charities chosen by our pupils.

We are a Health Promoting School, having achieved our Bronze Award in 2006.  Our committee, involving staff, parents and pupils, is currently working towards our Silver Award.

There is a wide range of out of hours learning opportunities available to our pupils.  These change from year to year.  This session activities have included chess, skipping, cycling proficiency, enterprise activities, movie making, games, S. U., and gardening.

The local secondary school is Chryston High school. There is very close liaison with secondary school, which ensures a smooth and effective transition for our primary seven pupils.

We place great importance on close links with parents and the wider community, and feel that by working together, our aims will be successfully achieved.
