Carbrain Primary and Nursery

Carbrain Primary school badge Carbrain primary school serves the South Carbrain area of Cumbernauld New Town. It is a two-stream, non-denominational school with provision for children from primary one to primary seven. There are 16 classrooms, a library, gymnasium, a dining room and two nursery rooms.

Extra curricular activities are organised such as excursions, Scottish week, concerts etc arranged by the school or the various campaigns organised by the  Council, the police and other local bodies who assist the school. Children are encouraged to join after school clubs and this year we are able to offer dance, netball, badminton, French, Scottish country dancing, school choir and paired reading. Through 'new opportunities funding' the authority offers choral singing and rugby at Cumbernauld high school. Outside view of Carbrain Primary school

The school is used regularly by youth organisations and adult groups. It also serves as the venue for the medical examinations of the Lanarkshire Health Board. As links between home and school to take part in educational workshops and discuss their children's progress. The school has many other links with the local community. The community involvement branch of the police visit the school regularly and organise various interesting projects for the children. Guest speakers from outside agencies in the local environment visit our regular assemblies and give talks on dental care, theatre craft, animal welfare, helping the aged and many other topics of local interest. The children pay regular visits to the local library, theatre, museum and postal and telecommunication establishments. At Harvest time, the whole school participates in collecting groceries for the local senior citizens and a special concert or tea party is arranged for their entertainment. This has become a tradition within Carbrain school. We are in the fortunate position of having the Craigieburn project based in school with a home link worker, who actively encourages the development of links with parents through a variety of organised activities.

Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from Carbrain primary normally transfer to Cumbernauld High School.
