Newarthill Nursery Centre

Newarthill Nursery school badge We are located in Newarthill, Motherwell and first opened in temporary accommodation within Newarthill community centre in August 1998, while waiting for other premises to be adapted.  We moved to our present accommodation in June 2000 where we have three playroom areas, a parents' room and outdoor areas with tarmac and grassed surfaces.  We are currently looking forward to a 'make-over' in one outside area that will become our Sensory garden.

We are open 52 weeks of the year and cater for children from three to five years of age.  We provide for 128 children with 64 attending each session.  Our staff consists of a head of centre, a depute head of centre, seven pre five workers, two clerical assistants and two caretakers/cleaners.

Our Sensory garden plans are part of our Eco work.  We are an Eco nursery and we were awarded our green flag in November 2002.  Through our curriculum work we aim to raise awareness of environmental issues.

Our qualified staff follow the Scottish Office Curriculum Framework and plan varied and interesting activities that will extend the children's learning.  We aim to promote children's independence and self esteem and encourage children to make choices during their session in the nursery.

There are opportunities for parents to share information about their child's development with staff.  Parents are also invited to participate in different activities within the nursery and on outings.
