PACTS was formed in 1982 to provide independent technical advice on transport issues to Parliament. Their membership consists of Parliamentarians from all parties, transport safety specialists and representatives from appropriate professional bodies and organisations.
Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA)
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents is a registered charity that was established over 80 years ago. Providing information, advice, resources and training, RoSPA is actively involved in the promotion of safety in all areas of life - at work, in the home, and on the roads, in schools, at leisure and on (or near) water.
Safe Routes to School
Sustrans, the sustainable transport charity, works on practical projects to encourage people to walk, cycle and use public transport for health, safety and environmental reasons. Its aim is to create a Safe Route to School for every child in the UK.
Road Operators Safety Council (ROSCO)
ROSCO was set up in 1955 to promote road safety in the bus and coach industry. It administers the national industry wide annual safe driving awards. Nearly 40,000 drivers, employed by some 100 companies participate in the awards each year.
Roadsafe
RoadSafe is a new road safety partnership of leading companies in the motor and transport industries in Britain, the Government and road safety professionals. It aims to reduce deaths and injuries caused by road crashes and promote safer driving. One of the schemes operated by RoadSafe is The Prince Michael Road Safety Award Scheme.
Scottish Road Safety Campaign (SRSC)
The SRSC was founded in 1985. It is funded in the main by the Scottish Executive and its remit is to develop and co-ordinate Scotland wide road safety initiatives and campaigns. The SRSC works closely with all local authorities and police road safety units in an attempt to ensure a co-ordinated approach to road safety in Scotland. The SRSC operates under the direction of three sub committees – Education, Publicity and Sponsorship. The Executive Committee oversees and manages the work of the Campaign.
Scottish Accident Prevention Council (SAPC)
The SAPC was founded in 1931. Membership is widely drawn from organisations and bodies throughout Scotland who have an involvement in safety. The principal role of the Council is to bring together a range of officials and elected members of local government to identify trends in accidents and to concentrate the weight of its membership towards advancing practical solutions. The Council has three principal committees, Road Safety, Home Safety and Water and Leisure Safety.
