Key aim one - to improve the learning system

  • Further develop use of ICT in the curriculum and administration
  • Provide enhanced educational facilities and access for the community through Education 2010

Key aim two - to raise achievement

  • Enhance continuing professional development opportunities for all staff working in education
  • Further develop strategies to improve literacy and numeracy 5-14
  • Implement the McCrone Report, 'A Teaching Profession for the 21st Century'
  • Recognise the achievements, skills and talents of all pupils in North Lanarkshire in collaboration with external partners

Key aim three - to support social inclusion

  • Develop an effective strategic framework for inclusion 0-19 involving integrated agency working and community planning
  • Deliver effective strategies to progress the staged implementation of mainstream education for pupils taking account of the built environment, staff development and parental views
  • Develop strategies to support the effective implementation of 'Better Behaviour – Better Learning'
  • Continue to develop services through integrated agency working to ensure that supportive arrangements are in place for the education of 'looked after and accommodated children'.
  • Promote race equality under the terms of the Race Relations (Amendment) Act, 2000

Key aim four - to improve people's prospects

  • Develop skills for the future by providing a more flexible secondary curriculum determined by pupil needs
  • Provide increased opportunities for children and young people to access the arts and cultural experiences
  • Support strategies for all pupils to develop skills in citizenship and enterprise and to promote 'Determined to Succeed'

Key aim five - to support community learning and development

  • Support establishments to engage more 'hard to reach' parents and carers in their children's education
