Eco schools awards

Eco school awards is a Europe wide project designed to encourage whole school action for the environment. It is a recognised award scheme rewarding and accrediting schools (include primary, secondary, special and early years establishments) that have made a commitment to continuously improving environmental performance.

The Eco-School topics include Litter, Energy, Water, Waste Management, Healthy Living, Transport and School Grounds.

There are three levels of award, Bronze, Silver and the most top award which is the prestigious Green Flag.

Eco–Schools is a programme of sustainable improvement, therefore the award needs to be renewed every two years to ensure schools continue to follow an action plan and a programme of environmental projects and developments.

In North Lanarkshire there are currently 50 schools registered on the scheme and to date eleven have achieved their Green Flag and more are in the process of assessment.
