4.11 Information and communication technology strategy
Over the last decade there have been huge developments in the use of information and communication technology (ICT). ICT has also become an integral part of the curriculum and a key educational resource which can support teachers in differentiating the curriculum to meet individual pupils' needs. The computer centre has worked in partnership with the Inclusion support base to develop schools' use of software such as 'Successmaker' which can provide pupils with an individually tailored work programme and 'CHAMPS', which develops children's awareness of their own learning styles. For pupils with higher levels of need, the authority's psychological service and SEN microtechnology service can assess individual pupils and identify software and hardware to allow them to access the curriculum. The authority is part of a National study on the use of ICT with Looked after and accommodated young people and is piloting the Virtual schoolbag, an integrated suite of educational software.
