Aiming higher with outward bound - achievements

Achievements

  • North Lanarkshire Council, in partnership with Outward Bound, fully fund this programme every year with no cost to students or schools.
  • Schools are allocated a number of places by the authority and are careful to select students they feel would benefit from the experience.
  • Over 1000 S4 pupils from 26 secondary schools and 5 special schools have participated annually over the last ten years.
  • This session (2005-06) the Outward Bound programme will pusrue accreditation by SQA through "Working with Others" at Intermediate 1.
  • North Lanarkshire have been invited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority to showcase Outward Bound - Working with Others on their Understanding Standards Website which provides on line assessment advice and training for teachers
  • A new DVD was produced last session for use in schools.
  • A new Journal was designed for use with our special school students and the journal for use in mainstream schools was revised in light of evaluations from staff.

Areas for development

  • A teacher's guide and a guide for moderators will be produced in 2005 as well as on line resources for teachers.
  • North Lanarkshire Council will be involved for the first time the Mark Scott Leadership for Life programme in conjunction with Outward Bound. Three schools have been in the pilot programme for this year with four S6 students from each school taking part in this unique, anti sectarian community –based project:
