The Council proposes to close St Gabriel's Primary School and transfer its pupils to St Columba's Primary School in a new-build RC primary school with a design capacity for 410 pupils. In addition, the accommodation will include 90 Early Education places in a new Nursery Centre to replace St Columba's nursery class and Hozier Nursery School.
The physical education facilities within the building and the on-site pitch (floodlit 7-a-side synthetic surface) will be available for community use outwith school core times. Other areas to be made available include the assembly hall/gym, dining and general purpose area. A Community Education Base will also be provided on the schoool campus.
The site proposed for the new RC primary and Nursery Centre is the unoccupied, cleared brownfield site which was formerly occupied by St Catherine's Secondary School at the intersection of Old Edinburgh Road and Laburnum Road.
