The Council proposes to amalgamate Columba High School and St Patrick's High School and to transfer the combined schools to a new project facility. The proposed design capacity for secondary education is for a 1350 pupil roll.
The Columba Sports complex, which will close, currently provides physical education provision to the existing Columba High School and its community. Within the new Coatbridge RC secondary project, it is proposed to recreate a sports complex by combining all physical education accommodation to provide use for education during their core times and use for community at other times. Two full-size synthetic pitches (with flood lighting) and two grass pitches will be on-site for school and community group use.
The Coatbridge Community Education Centre, currently located in Canal Street, will close and this facility will be accommodated within the new project facility.
Kirkshaws Safe Play Group, a voluntary organisation that leases from the council a former community centre in the Rosehall Park area, will utilise accommodation within the new project facility.
The proposed site for the new RC secondary school is the Rosehall Park area on the south side of the town which is central to the combined school's catchment area.
