Answers:
It is about raising achievement and morale by improving the quality and design of our school buildings. The vision of new, modern buildings that are bright, well-equipped and comfortable places with new external sports facilities to create the best learning environment for our young people will become a reality.
The vital contribution of pre-school education lies in developing and broadening the range of children's experiences, to leave them confident, eager and enthusiastic learners who are looking forward to school and the Education 2010 PPP provides for early years facilities in all primary school projects.
It is about recognising that learning in the community does not end at 18. Through Education 2010 we wish these new buildings to be seen as pivotal to the community life by providing a valuable resource that can be used for leisure and community activities. Back to Top The PPP approach is the only means currently available whereby the huge sums of money needed for the size of investment that the Council requires can be raised. Back to Top The schools and facilities which are part of Education 2010 PPP are likely to be completed no later than 4 years after the council has completed negotiations (financial close) with the preferred bidder. Financial close and council approvals are currently timetabled for June 2004. Click on Project Milestones for background information and a proposed timetable of events.
For schools outwith the PPP project, improvement work has already begun but the whole process of tackling all school building problems will take around 8 or 9 years, hence the project title Education 2010. Back to Top Schools not in the project will benefit from substantial improvements financed through the release of capital funding. Back to Top Following an extensive exercise of consultation and public meetings held during October and November, 2002 and a further meeting in January 2003, North Lanarkshire Council's Education Committee approved the schools, community facilities and sites to be included in its £150 million Education 2010 PPP Project.
This major investment will see a significant programme of rebuilding and refurbishment. Click on Education 2010 PPP Projects for a full list of the schools and community facilities included in the programme. Back to Top Yes. The Department of Community Services, who manage community facilities, is a key partner in the development of schools for community use.
There will be enhanced sports facilities in all projects, consisting mainly of on-site all weather flood-lit sports pitches. There will also be a cultural centre, community education centre, sports centre, new public library and five community education school bases. Back to Top |
