What is sure start

The overall aim of Sure start Scotland is to promote social inclusion through a positive start in young children's lives, helping them to make the most of subsequent opportunities.

The emphasis is on early intervention and preventive work with families in disadvantaged communities. The programme is aimed at children from birth to 3 years and their carers, including parents, grandparents and extended family members.

Sure start Scotland has four broad objectives:-

  • To improve children's social and emotional development
  • To improve children's health
  • To improve children's ability to learn
  • To strengthen families and communities
