The Sure Start homelink project is based within Whifflet Library and is managed by a Project Manager. It has six homelink workers who each work within a designated area within North Lanarkshire Council.
The aim of the project is to support parents with children aged birth to 3 years in a variety of contexts to become more involved in their children's learning and development. It also supports disadvantaged parents in their roles as parents, raising awareness of the importance of play, assisting parents in child's transition from home to early education and encouraging parents to access education and training opportunities and to become more active in expressing their own and their children's needs.
This is achieved by offering a variety of different types of programmes. These include parent and child play sessions and parenting programmes which focus on child related issues, delivery of play workshops covering aspects of the curriculum and focus groups which support parents individual needs. Some of these programmes run in partnership with with other agencies e.g. Early Years establishments, health visitors and community learning and development.
