Carers, including young carers under 16 years, support or look after relatives, partners or friends in need of help because they are ill, frail or disabled. Following an assessment (which includes a Community Care Assessment for the person being cared for and a Carer Assessment), a range of support services can be both directly provided and purchased by the Council on behalf of carers. This includes home based respite services, residential respite services and information and support services.
A new Strategy for Carers 2005 - 2008 has been published (June 2005).
There is also a new Guide to Social Work Services and a leaflet explaining about what services are available for carers. There is also a new carers leaflet explaining the Carer's Assessment
