Market Place Surveillance

The Trading Standards service undertakes, as a significant part of its workload, surveillance of commercial activities within the marketplace to initially detect, then eliminate any infringement of legislation enforced by the service.

Areas targeted include retail supply, manufacturing, wholesaling and advertising. The manner of work undertaken varies from routine test transactions, inspection of equipment or assessing trading modes to the reactive mode used to respond to individual complaints or alerts notified via the services and organisations which are involved with the wider Trading Standards Service .
