Consultation on the Draft NLLP closed 2nd November 2007 and representations are now being considered. A Finalised Plan is in preparation and targeted for completion autumn 2008.
The plan will be a 5-10 year strategy for physical development. Its policies and development proposals are intended to make sure that:
- There are enough of the different types of land uses (houses, offices, open spaces etc) for North Lanarkshire to be a successful place
- Facilities are in the right places for people to access them
- Development does not harm the environment
The Consultation Draft is one of the major milestones in the statutory process of producing a local plan. The idea of the Consultation Draft is to canvass opinion on whether or not the policies and development proposals are appropriate.
The plan has four elements:
- A Policy Document setting out the plan's aim and the policies and development proposals to achieve it
- Three Area Proposals Documents listing the development opportunities and protected assets for the north, central and south areas of North Lanarkshire
- Three Area Proposals Maps showing where the development opportunities are and where policies apply in the north, central and south areas of North Lanarkshire
- Draft NLLP Consultation Representation Form
The Consultation Draft Plan is also accompanied by:
- An Environmental Report explaining the plan's environmental implications
