Work and wellbeing - complying with legislation

Work and Wellbeing Logo

Legislation is in place to protect people who are at work or who may be affected by a work activity.

Depending on the type of work the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), or the Environmental Health Section of North Lanarkshire Council will advise you on what legislation affects your business and what measures you need to have in place to comply with it.

There are a number of topics which are responsible for the majority of accidents or cases of ill health in the workplace. These are, falls from height, slips and trips, workplace transport, musculoskeletal disorders, stress, hand arm vibration and occupational asthma.

Both organisations provide free information and guidance leaflets which cover these and other health and safety issues.

Visits to workplaces by inspectors from these two organisations are important ways of helping businesses to understand and keep to the rules, and to make sure they improve conditions where necessary.

Visits are targeted at businesses where the risks to health and safety are higher or are not controlled properly.
